Philosophy

I believe birth is a natural, normal process and that we are designed to carry, birth and
feed our children.   I think education is the key to overcoming fears about birth.  A part
of the doula role is to help families gather the information needed to make informed,
confident choices and to provide non-judgmental support.

I believe a woman should be able to choose how, where and with whom she wants to
labor.  Woman's bodies, spirit and what is done to her physically and emotionally
during her pregnancy and birth matters.  I believe woman deserve to be treated with
respect and dignity at all times and especially during the labor and delivery of her
child.  Women remember birth experiences for the rest of their lives.  It should be a
pleasant, cherished memory.  The experience of birth should leave you feeling
empowered and confident.

Personal History

I have spent many hours reading and done extensive research on childbirth.  Based
on all that I had learned, I choose to have my daughter at home in March of 2004.
Since then I have continued to study and learn everything I can on many parenting
topics, especially birth.  Prior to my own birth, I was also with my best friend when she
delivered her son at home and stayed with her on the transfer to the hospital and her
stay there. These events helped me to understand the role of doulas and the
importance of this work.

I currently work as a birth and postpartum doula in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
I live in Fort Mill, South Carolina and would like to work with ladies in this area also.  I
would be able to travel a 50-mile radius.  I attend 1-3 births per month and serve 1-2
postpartum clients.
